Ruby Sartain-Miller (Hunkpapa Lakota/Ihaƞktoƞwaƞ Dakota)
Integrated Wellness Coordinator
Ruby Sartain-Miller (Hunkpapa Lakota/Ihaƞktoƞwaƞ Dakota) is the Integrated Wellness Coordinator for the Village SF Initiative, where she leads the expansion of the Women’s Lodge Program and the Golden Gate Garden Project while continuing her case management work at FH’s Women’s Lodge. In this dual role, Ruby supports Native mothers and their children through residential treatment while building long-term, land-based healing programs rooted in cultural revitalization and Indigenous values. This role supports client care from intake through program completion, integrating culturally informed wellness practices, managing project logistics, and researching funding opportunities.
At the Women’s Lodge, Ruby manages care coordination and program goals for women and children in treatment, collaborating with therapists, social workers, traditional healers, and partner agencies including the American Indian Child Resource Center and the Native American Health Center. Her work centers on family reunification, cultural healing, and navigating complex tribal, state, and county systems to ensure wraparound support for Native families.
Ruby’s approach to wellness is shaped by lived experience as well as professional development, including her apprenticeship with the Indigenous Permaculture Intensive Training Program, where she learned traditional ecological knowledge and urban farming practices across sites in Bishop, Hoopa Valley, Treasure Island, and East Oakland. Her four years at Berkeley Student Farms also inform her leadership in creating FH’s Women’s Garden Project—now a cornerstone of the Lodge and a model for Village SF’s growing environmental justice work.
Through her integrated responsibilities, Ruby advances a holistic vision of healing that bridges clinical care, cultural practice, and community-led systems change.
